Making its first flights to the International Space Station early in the next decade, Orion is part of the Constellation Program to send human explorers back to the moon, and then onward to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.

Mysterious chalkings have been reported throughout NASA Langley Research Center. The puzzling messages appeared overnight and urge employees to take bizarre actions, such as smile, dance through crosswalks and skip to work. Safety officials tested the chalk and have confirmed that it presents no problem to employees. Langley spokesperson Marny Skora says management encourages employees to take risks, noting that as one chalking indicates, "Every noble work is at first impossible."...

Engineers performed a series of tests in the 20-ft. Vertical Spin Tunnel recently that measured the aerodynamics of a 6.25 percent model of the Orion crew module with deployed drogue parachutes. This was a twenty-foot sphere which simulated for the astronauts what the surface of the moon would look like from 200 miles up. Project LOLA or Lunar Orbit and Landing Approach was a simulator built at Langley to study problems related to landing on the lunar surface. It was a complex project that cost nearly $2 million dollars....

America will send a new generation of explorers to the moon aboard NASA's Orion crew exploration vehicle. Making its first flights to the International Space Station early in the next decade, Orion is part of the Constellation Program to send human explorers back to the moon, and then onward to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.
