Backdropped against the blackness of space, this is one of the first views of the International Space Station. This image of the station was photographed by the crew aboard space shuttle Atlantis in February 2001 as the shuttle and the station parted company on Feb. 16, as shuttle pilot Mark Polansky flew halfway around the outpost and its new Destiny laboratory before moving off. The station's first resident crew, Expedition One, launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on Oct. 31, 2000. The...
